Sewing School Series

Update:  If you are looking for a specific post in this series, you can find all the posts organized here

I am really excited about this series!  I can’t tell you how many times people tell me, “I wish I could sew like you.”  Probably about 99.9% of the time, they don’t believe me when I tell them, “You can!”   Sewing isn’t a talent.  It’s a life skill, and with practice and determination anyone can do it!   Are there going to be people who it comes easier to??  Sure!  But that’s true of anything!

In this series, I am going to walk you through step by step using both written and video tutorials, and show you that  YOU CAN SEW!!!  Below is an outline of topics that will be covered.  This is just an outline, and I will make adjustments as we walk through the series based on questions and feedback from you, so please feel free to make suggestions and ask questions!  I would appreciate if you would ask all questions in the comment section, so that everyone can benefit.  Also, please notice, that all of my posts are print friendly, so if you would like to print out any info and/or tutorials you can easily do it by using the button at the bottom of  my posts!

And since practice is the best way to learn, once we have gone over all the topics, I will be sharing some free patterns, that we will use to do sew alongs!  So if you have any requests, now is the time to let me know because I am getting started on designing the patterns this week.

I think that should just about cover it.  If I missed anything, please let me know in the comments sections.

Oh!  And if you plan on joining us, please grab a sewing school button  from the sidebar and share it on your blog or share this post on your FB and/or Twitter to help me spread the word!

  8. This is something I need to do! I have never been very good at sewing. I am grabbing your button for my side bar to share this great tutorial and I will be following along. Just popping over from the Grant Life to check this out:) I would love for you to share this at Freedom Fridays. So hoping to see you there!
    PS Am now following you.

  9. So happy to here about this series. I have a question about tension. Seems my machine is always bunching the thread underneath the fabric. I’ve tried adjusting the tension and it has been tuned up. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need a super new machine?

  10. This is great! Definitely going to subscribe as soon as I finish writing this. I sewed a lot years ago but kids then work kept me from going back. Now I’m disabled so I have back challenges to work around, but I’m going to do this. Your refreshers for me will surely help. Thanks. Janet

How generous of you to share all of this knowledge, as a new-ish seamstress…I still have many a question.

I featured your upcoming sewing series at Creative Juice today, and I will also be sharing this at Pinterest.

    Thanks

  17. Hey, I stumbled across this site when I was looking up some sewing tips. I’d love to follow the classes but I dont have a blog of my own…so how do I go about getting some help. Trying to teach myself…cant find any actual sewing classes by me.
    ;) thanks

  18. Hi April
I recently got my singer machine, for the first day all went well, then some how the needle got jammed and bend; I replace the needle only to have the same thing happen again. I have since keep replacing the needles, however, they keep jamming and breaking on the bobbin container, I have followed all the instructions located in the manual, but cannot get the problem rectified. Can you help?
