Do you set health + fitness goals and then quickly become overwhelmed by them?
I know that’s always been my story. Between being a homeschooling mom of 3, blogger, online health + fitness coach, wife, sister, mom, friend that struggles with anxiety, depression, AND an addiction to the approval of other people, I often feel like I am pulled in a million directions and none of them lead me down a path where the destination is time to take care of myself and my needs.
Needless to say adding in a workout routine and eating healthy and all the planning + prep that goes along with it, quickly overwhelms me and every year, and I’m back making the same old resolutions.
The GOOD NEWS is: I HAVEN’T GIVEN UP.
I haven’t got it right yet, but I also have never quit trying. It’s been 11 years since I started this journey, You’d think by now I’d be much better at it, but the old saying is true, “You didn’t get this way over night, you aren’t going to fix it over night.”
See my life has been filled with anxieties and insecurities and baggage that have lead to me developing a lot of unhealthy habits. I was a smoker for 12 years. My daily diet used to be a pack and a half of Marlboro Lights, a 12 pack of Coke (a-Cola!), a ham and cheese hot pocket, and 6 fried shrimp or a cheeseburger at work.
I’ve worked through A LOT over the past 11 years – and trust me there is still plenty more to work through. This health + fitness journey isn’t just about looking good in a bikini and having six-pack abs (although it’d be nice).
You have to CHANGE YOUR MIND to CHANGE YOUR BODY – otherwise this whole health + fitness thing is just another quick fix to what the real problem is.
If you are working out because you hate your body instead of because you love it, THAT’S A PROBLEM.
And that’s where I have been for a long time.
This year, I am striving to change that by starting my 2017 PRACTICAL Health + Fitness Challenge. Where we will focus on:

– LEARNING HOW TO SET REALISTIC GOALS THAT WON’T LEAVE US FEELING LIKE FAILURES BECAUSE WHAT WORKS FOR OTHERS DOESN’T SEEM TO WORK FOR US
